Class Information
Welcome to Herons!
Welcome to Year 6! We are so excited to welcome you back for what promises to be a fantastic and memorable year. Year 6 is a very exciting year where we study a wide range of themes and begin preparing for the next step in our education. There will be lots of opportunities to challenge ourselves, develop new skills and grow in confidence as learners.
Term 1 : The Whole World in Our Hands
Our first curriculum theme is The whole world in Our Hands, where we will explore how different people shaped our world. We will think carefully about the equality and learn about the important role Bristol has played in Black history. Our class text will be Journey Back to Freedom, through which we will learn about the experiences and struggles of a young man aboard a slave ship.
Terms 2 and 3 : Exploration
During our exploration topic, we will follow the remarkable journeys of Ernest Shackleton and Charles Darwin. We will discover the challenges they faced and consider how explorers throughout history helped shape our knowledge and understanding of the world around us.
Terms 4 and 5 : Law and Order
Our next theme, Law and Order will take us on a journey from the Middle ages through Victorian Britain and up to the present day. We will investigate how laws, rules and punishments have changed over time and explore the reasons behind these changes.
Term 6 : People, Places and Me
In our final term, we will bring together many of the ideas we have studied throughout the year We will explore why people migrate, how movement of people has shaped communities and consider the important question:
"Should we be allowed to live anywhere?"
We are looking forward to an exciting year of learning, discovery and achievement with all of our Herons.
Lets make Year 6 a year to remember!
