Meadowbrook Primary School

Family Liaison

Our School Learning Mentor

Hello,

I am Mrs Becky Smith, Meadowbrook’s Learning Mentor / Family Link Liaison and a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead. I am sure many of you will have seen me on the school gate in the mornings. However, I wanted to take this time to introduce myself and a little about my role.

I have worked with or volunteered in the children and young people’s sector since I was 16. I have a wealth of experience working with children and young people of all ages, from Nursery to Post 16. I have always worked in a pastoral role, caring for children and young people’s wellbeing. I have also worked with adults in a human resources capacity. I am most definitely a people person!

I am a caring and compassionate person who is dedicated to helping and supporting young people and their families in making positive differences to their lives.

The main aspect of my role at Meadowbrook is to support the social and emotional wellbeing of all of the children. I strongly believe that every child is entitled to a high quality education; each child has their own journey and path to follow, and for some, this can be a little bumpier than others. I am here, to help smooth out those bumps to help ensure each child feels happy, safe, secure and cared for whilst they are in school. All the children at Meadowbrook know that I love to see, hear and speak with them about anything and everything.

Part of my role is also to work with the parents. If any parent has any changes in the family home, worries or concerns about their children, I am always happy to listen to see what and how I can help or support, or signpost to other agencies for help. I truly believe a problem shared is a problem halved (it is also really important to talk).

Anyone that I work or volunteer with will confirm my paramount priority is always the safety and wellbeing of a young person. I always work with an open door policy, where anyone, adult or young person, is welcome to come to me to be heard. I actively listen to any individual whom my work involves and if they ask for advice I will happily provide it with honesty, integrity, empathy and sensitivity. My job is not to judge anyone, but to support and help in any way that I can to ensure young people are safe. For me to ensure young people are safe, I need to gain individual’s trust, and I often will share with parents and young people, I can only work with honesty from them and without any judgement from me, if they wish for me to help.

I am in school every day from 08:30 - 16:00 so please feel free to book an appointment with me at the office or e-mail me directly at becky.smith@olympustrust.co.uk

Many thanks

Becky
